Hermitage & North Shore -

Living Shoreline

In 2017, EQR was contracted with the City of Norfolk to restore 932 linear feet of shoreline and to create 1.14 acres of associated tidal marsh. The work is to be performed at the site of the Hermitage Museum on a tidal inlet located west of the museum.

Work will include installing rock sills along a portion of the Lafayette River, continuing around an existing spit north into the tidal inlet using a combination of coir logs and rock at the toe extending north. Sand fill will be placed landward of the sills and planted with marsh grasses as part of the tidal marsh creation. The work will also include removal of a portion of a concrete bulkhead in order to perform the work.
