Oakton Swim & Racquet -
Bioretention
During the pre-construction phase of this project, the untreated stormwater was flowing in a 48" concrete pipe before entering a natural channel. So Fairfax used the unit price contract to have EQR retrofit three existing stormwater inlets to improve the quality of water leaving the site.
Regrading the site and the installation of bioretention facilities around the existing structures will remove sediment and pollutants as stormwater enters the facility. With the installation of native plants in the bioretention areas the plants, soil and mulch will reduce nutrients. The reduction will remove 24 lbs. of total nitrogen, 4 lbs. of phosphorus and 684 lbs. of sediment per year.
