FUP Colony Park -

Bioretention

In 2013, EQR was awarded a three-year unit price contract to address stream restoration and stormwater management facility retrofit, repair, and installation throughout Fairfax County.

The Colony Park project had two components: dual pond retrofits and stream restoration, which utilized constructed a wetland and natural channel design concepts. The goal was to increase the overall quality of water being discharged from the site by increasing the holding capacity of two existing stormwater management ponds, stabilizing the stream channel, and extending the flow paths throughout both ponds to the maximum extent possible.  Stream restoration work included grading the existing stream banks, installing in-stream structures including a plunge pool, stone cross-vanes, and reinforced bed material placement, site stabilization with seed, straw, and matting. In total, approximately 300 LF of stream channel was restored.
