The Mason Neck Stormwater retrofit was started in late-Fall 2014 and finished in early-Spring of 2015. The work was performed for Fairfax County, Virginia under a unit price contract that EQR has with the county to perform storm water retrofits and stream restoration projects. 

 

The existing pond was the storm water pond for Mason Neck West Park.  The original pond was constructed with a concrete trapezoidal channel that conveyed the storm water through the pond providing only limited detention and no water quality treatment. The new design with a series of micro pools not only extended the detention time but also provided for water quality treatment through infiltration to the groundwater table but uptake in the newly planted facility.
