Windmill Hill Living Shoreline

EQR was contracted by the City of Alexandria, VA to construct this multi-faceted living shoreline project. The work involved replacing 1,200 feet of failing concrete and timber bulkhead with stone revetments, sand and marsh grasses. Upland improvements included replacing stormwater outfalls, a pedestrian bridge, walking trails, and a boat ramp. EQR managed 14 different subcontractors with widely varying scopes of work for this project.

Stormwater Maintenance and Management

Effective stormwater maintenance and management are essential to reducing flooding, controlling erosion, and keeping stormwater infrastructure functioning as intended. EQR’s maintenance and construction teams have the experience to address a wide range of stormwater needs, from resolving maintenance violations to managing stormwater ponds, wetlands, and other critical infrastructure.

Medstar Harbor Hospital Living Shoreline project

In partnership with GreenVest, the Middle Branch Resiliency Authority, South Baltimore Gateway Partnership, and Moffatt & Nichol, EQR completed a living shoreline project along MedStar Harbor Hospital in Baltimore’s Middle Branch. The project uses nature-based solutions and resilient materials to reduce erosion, strengthen the shoreline, and help protect the surrounding community.

Eisenhower Golf Course Stream Restoration

Anne Arundel County contracted EQR to restore ~6,500 linear feet of Broad Creek and 6.5 acres of wetlands. EQR also installed 15,900 square feet of concrete boardwalks to serve as golf cart paths over restored areas. EQR had to adhere to a very constrained schedule to accommodate golf course operations. In 2021, EQR received an Associated Builders and Contractors Excellence Award for our work on this project.

Beltsville Agricultural Research Center Mitigation Wetland

In 2018, Greenvest, LLC selected EQR to perform construction on this MD State Highway Administration project. The work consisted of constructing multiple wetland cells while creating 2,200 linear feet of new stream channel. The stream and wetlands are fed by existing drainage swales and an aquifer that EQR made connections to during construction.
