A Year in Pictures: Restoring our Watershed in 2017

2017 has been a year for the books! With many great projects started and finished, we are making steps to clean, preserve and protect the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.

Over the course of the year we have encouraged our employees whether in the field of in the office to try and capture our projects from any phase. Since our projects range from Washington D.C., all the way to Colorado we have seen some amazing images.

We are so lucky to work with so many great partners on our projects, whether its our designers, clients or contractors! We get to do what we love everyday and these images capture that feeling.

  Mike Aust - This project restored the stream banks, channel and floodplain of Baptist Run Stream to a more natural condition along 1700 feet of this tributary to a local reservoir.

  Allison Valenzia - The restored wetland system at Four Mile Run now includes a low marsh zone, a high marsh zone, and an upland meadow in order to provide both terrestrial and aquatic habitat improvements for frogs, songbirds, and native pollinators while treating stormwater runoff. The flagging you see in the picture is for geese exclusion.

  Tommy Carney- Mount Olivet Cemetery in Washington, D.C. sits on a historic hill overlooking the monuments of the nation’s capital. EQR was contracted to implement a multi-phase approach to generate stormwater retention credits (SRC) for the cemetery.

  Jimmy Dick - Fifty-year-old Brookfield Park Dam is located within a public park in the Springfield area of southeastern Fairfax County, VA. The neighborhood can now enjoy the park and wet pond, with four floating vegetated islands and a permeable parking lot.

  Sean Anger - EQR crew members are installing a Step Pool Sequence on a stormwater fed tributary of Barnaby Run in Temple Hills, MD. The work is associated with WSSC’s initiative to stabilize select stream reaches in effort to protect existing Sanitary Sewer assets.

  Jake Lewis - Looking back on what's been completed and looking ahead to what's left. This wetland is now home to turtles, frogs, snakes, beavers, and waterfowl such as ducks, geese, and swans.

  Karly Epp - Alger Park is a seven-acre park in the Anacostia watershed in Southeast Washington, D.C., where an estimated 41 % of the watershed is impervious! EQR restored 1,500 linear feet of stream channel creating a beautiful restoration for the community to enjoy.

  Tom Lewis - The crew is rolling out coir matting. This helps restore natural function to a previously degraded system.

  Ethan Chappell - The famous cherry blossom trees ( also known as Sakura) of D.C. were a gift from the Japanese in 1912 as a symbol of lasting friendship between our countries. Here, EQR employees are planting the cherry trees at historic Fort McNair.

  Mike Leuchte - This project consisted of restoring and stabilizing approximately 500 LF of the stream channel. The restoration consisted of regrading the existing channel and installing grade control structures. The water from this tidal marsh is a finger inlet to the Lafayette River.

• 

  Jake Ayers - This non-tidal wetland creation is located on Beltsville Agricultural Research Center property and transformed over 20 acres of abandoned fields into an intricate forested wetland system.
