USDA B.A.R.C. Facility -

Wetland Restoration

EQR was contracted by The Maryland State Highway Administration for the Advanced Stream and Wetland Mitigation Project which was located at the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) in Beltsville, MD, with Greenvest, LLC serving as the project developer.  The work area was adjacent to our recently completed restoration project for Greenvest, which was built in conjunction with the Chesapeake Bay Trust and Maryland Department of the Environment.

The current project consisted of creating over 2,200 LF of new stream channel that tied into the CBT-MDE project that included periodic log grade control structures, along with excavation of over 20,000 CY of soil to create overflow wetland cells adjacent to the newly created stream channels.  The stream channels and wetland cells are fed by existing drainage swales and by a new connection to an existing aquifer that was made during construction.  Upon completion of construction, the project site will be planted with riparian vegetation to aid in habitat enhancement.
